Shane married his childhood sweetheart on 28th December 2003, Gillian Walsh is also bandmate Kian's cousin. In July 2005, Shane and Gillian became parents to a little girl whom they name Nicole Rose Filan.
Shane grew up around horses so naturally one of his favourite hobbies would be horse riding. When he was young child he participated in many horse riding shows for which he has won numberous trophies for. He had his house in Sligo built from scratch which took 3 years or so to build
Shane has also written a few of Westlife's songs for example Bop Bop baby which he had co-written with ex-band member Brian McFadden along with many other songs such Together Girl Forever (an IOU song), Where we belong etc. Not only has he written songs for the band but he has also written songs for other artists.
In March 2008, Shane announced he was expecting another baby with wife Gillian which was due in Sept 2008.
