Kian went to the same college as Shane and Mark, in which they knew each other through the school production of Grease. Kian has been going out with ex-Hollyoaks actress Jodi Albert for a few years now and have opened a cocktail bar in sligo together called Monkey Tree
Kian enjoys spending his free time with his girlfriend Jodi or in the surf, he spends lots of his free time surfing. Kian also participates in local charities for example he and his girlfriend Jodi Albert sky dived for an Indonesia charity, which the Westlife boys also put money towards.
Kian was a judge on Miss Ireland 2005.
In Christmas 2007, Kian proposed to Jodi Albert despite dismissing that he wouldn't propose at Christmas like bandmates Nicky and Shane.
